VPNs are also supposed to prevent anyone from seeing how you spend your time online. If you are interested in the topic of online privacy, you have probably heard about the fact that websites along with your ISP keep records of all connections made from your IP Address. Every time you visit a web page, your ISP as well as the website make a note of that connection and the log is created. The log records your IP Address, the time of your visit to the website, and the duration of your connection. This means that when you are browsing without a VPN, your online activity is pretty much exposed to at least two other parties.

Making sure that there are no logs leading to your IP Address is one of the main selling points for VPNs, So how exactly can VPNs help you avoid logs?

Why are logs important for online security?

If you have read the definition above, you might think that the logs are relatively harmless and can’t do much in terms of intruding on your privacy. In reality, they are marketers’ favorite way to gather information about you and use it to market various products. Logs can also be used to determine some of our browsing habits, especially if you don't keep track of your browser cookies. You can also easily determine the location of the IP address through logs, which could create a whole new set of problems.

To put it shortly, as long as the websites or your ISP keep logs on you, your online identity is not private. ISPs or websites can sell that valuable information to a third party, putting your privacy and online safety at risk. The problem is that a lot of people do not know how easy it is for third parties to access your personal information and then use it without your permission, be that to advertise their products or find out personal information about you.

One way to resolve this issue is through using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) but are the VPNs enough to make sure you’re safe out there?

How VPNs provide online privacy

Firstly, let's define the term VPN in further detail. Virtual Private Networks connect the user to one of its servers, disguising the client’s IP address. When a website you’re visiting or your ISP tries to see your IP address, they will only see the VPN server, meaning that you can remain anonymous and retain your privacy when browsing.

While browsing without a VPN, your ISP sees exactly which services you are accessing, when you are using a VPN, your ISP only sees that you have connected to VPN and nothing more. Although, some people are skeptical about the many claims that VPN providers make regarding their services regarding anonymity and their no-logs policy. Skeptics might argue that some of those VPN companies might actually disclose the logs to third parties, which is something that has definitely happened before. This is why it’s crucial to do your research and read reviews before you decide on which VPN to use. While it might seem like any VPN is better than none, when you take a closer look at the log issue, it's evident that there is much more that we as consumers need to think about.

One way to know for sure, whether or not a specific company can be trusted with logs, is to take a closer look at their log policy. BlufVPN has a strict no-log policy, meaning that they do not keep logs in their system. Even if the third party was to approach the company, they would have nothing to offer or say, since they also don't know what the client is doing online. In a perfect world, all VPNs would adopt the same approach, but in reality, a lot of these companies are more than willing to sell the data and betray their clients.

How can VPNs get away with not keeping logs?

Now you may be thinking, how can a VPN not keep any records on the websites that their clients visit? And you would have a point. VPNs do need to keep records, but they don’t have to be nearly as intrusive as the regular logs. Instead, they can keep track of the essential information without compromising the anonymity of their users.

Some VPNs distinguish between a connection log and an activity log. The connection log only concerns the connections that the private server made, meaning that your IP address will not be a part of that log. The activity log keeps track of when the client connected with the VPN server and for how long. Depending on the VPN provider, some will keep both kinds of logs, while others will only keep the connection log. Even if a VPN keeps track of both, your identity will still remain anonymous. But even with this information in mind, it's important to choose a VPN that will keep you anonymous no matter the circumstances, so choose carefully!

How to choose the best VPN option

The importance of having a VPN is becoming more and more apparent, with so many public cases of data breaches and cases of non-consensual third-party involvements in online spaces.

But as we highlighted above, not all VPNs are created equal. Some might sell you a facade of privacy but they might be more than willing to hand over your personal information to third parties. While having a VPN is a smart choice for anyone who uses the internet, it’s crucial that you choose a VPN that can be trusted, the one that will not keep logs or sell your private data to a third party without your consent. BlufVPN is transparent about its no-log policies, has rock-solid encryption, and will always hide your location. Even if someone tries to pinpoint where you are browsing from, they will only be able to locate the VPN IP address, the same address used by thousands of other BlufVPN users.

Only trust VPNs that are transparent about their log policies and are not interested in selling your data to advertisers.
"}}}],"title":"What is a no-log VPN?","description":"Read about logless BlufVPN in our blog article!","title_image":{"dimensions":{"width":1280,"height":720},"url":"https://images.prismic.io/nitrovpn/1e879369-8cfc-4d44-b9a7-94f16f1c8907_What+is+a+no-log+VPN%3F.png?auto=compress%2Cformat&rect=0%2C0%2C1280%2C720&w=1280&h=720","alt":"What is a no-log VPN?","copyright":null,"localFile":{"relativePath":".cache/caches/gatsby-source-prismic/72afd25ac825eced2baad07182ea2723/1e879369-8cfc-4d44-b9a7-94f16f1c8907_What+is+a+no-log+VPN%3F.png","absolutePath":"/opt/build/repo/.cache/caches/gatsby-source-prismic/72afd25ac825eced2baad07182ea2723/1e879369-8cfc-4d44-b9a7-94f16f1c8907_What+is+a+no-log+VPN%3F.png","childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/png;base64,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","aspectRatio":1.7741935483870968,"src":"/static/3725da8d8445bffee59db607948b1879/ca314/1e879369-8cfc-4d44-b9a7-94f16f1c8907_What%2Bis%2Ba%2Bno-log%2BVPN%253F.png","srcSet":"/static/3725da8d8445bffee59db607948b1879/7157a/1e879369-8cfc-4d44-b9a7-94f16f1c8907_What%2Bis%2Ba%2Bno-log%2BVPN%253F.png 275w,\n/static/3725da8d8445bffee59db607948b1879/a6873/1e879369-8cfc-4d44-b9a7-94f16f1c8907_What%2Bis%2Ba%2Bno-log%2BVPN%253F.png 551w,\n/static/3725da8d8445bffee59db607948b1879/ca314/1e879369-8cfc-4d44-b9a7-94f16f1c8907_What%2Bis%2Ba%2Bno-log%2BVPN%253F.png 1101w,\n/static/3725da8d8445bffee59db607948b1879/43d88/1e879369-8cfc-4d44-b9a7-94f16f1c8907_What%2Bis%2Ba%2Bno-log%2BVPN%253F.png 1280w","sizes":"(max-width: 1101px) 100vw, 1101px"}}}},"title_image_copyright":{"html":""},"meta_description":"What does a VPN without logs mean? Unless you are using a VPN, you are exposed to multiple interested parties trying to gather as much information about you as possible for business, personal use, and everything in between.

Did you know that even when you browse the web privately, your internet service provider(ISP) can still see your online activity? And considering that we store most of our important information online and conduct most activities through the internet, having privacy online is as crucial as ever. So here’s what you should know to decide whether or not you should be using a VPN at home.

Should I be using a VPN at home?

The short answer is - yes, you need to have VPN even at home. VPN ensures that no one, not even your internet service provider gets access to your browsing history or data. Having a VPN is the best way to guarantee privacy online.

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. When you browse online using a VPN your data gets encrypted and is redirected through a VPN server, guaranteeing your anonymity. Nothing you do online can be traced back to you. While most of us think that what we do online can be anonymous, the reality is that without a VPN, all your data is at risk, even when you are using Wi-Fi at home.

The issue of online privacy is becoming more and more relevant and more and more talked about because people are waking up to all the risks coming from authorities or companies trying to analyze your online behaviors in order to use them for their own personal gains. The sooner you decide to get a VPN, the better it will be for your overall security.

Without a VPN, you are exposed to multiple threats and your privacy and security are at risk at all times. Your Internet Service Provider will not hesitate to hand over your personal information to a company or an entity that will pay enough money, so staying anonymous online is as valuable as ever.

Do VPNs provide online security?

VPNs do provide online security through their servers. To understand the process better, here’s a detailed breakdown of how VPNs work to protect you and your data.

When you use a VPN, it encrypts your data and everything you do online.

This means that no one, not even your Internet Service Provider or a cybercriminal will be able to see your online activity or use your personal data. You can surf online safely, knowing that you are protecting yourself and your data by using a VPN.

Is it worth it to use VPN at home?

If you care about privacy and do not believe that it is right that your private browsing habits and information could be sold to big tech corporations without you even knowing about it, then yes, VPN is a great investment for anyone who uses the internet and stores a lot of valuable information online. Some people might be hesitant to use a VPN at home because they believe that their home network is an exception. The sad reality is that all networks can easily be targeted by hackers, authorities, or even ISPs.

But VPN has many other positive attributes aside from granting security and privacy to its users.

Using a VPN can help you avoid various network restrictions and firewalls that monitor incoming and outgoing network traffic and can sometimes block you from accessing information. When using a VPN, you can easily surpass these obstacles, because, in order for the firewalls to restrict access, they need to actually see where the movement is coming from. If you are using a VPN, then the movement can not be traced back to you, which can help you avoid firewalls.

You will also be able to access your favorite TV Shows or movies that might not be available in your country. This can easily be one of the most annoying things about streaming services, but it can be avoided by using a VPN. You just have to select a country that is different from yours and see the other options for entertainment.

Not only does VPN provide security and safety, but it also makes browsing the internet more comfortable giving you more options and helping you avoid restrictions.

Should I be using a VPN on my other devices?

You might think that the only device that is vulnerable to attacks is your laptop but actually all devices that connect you to Wi-Fi can be hacked and you should have a VPN on all the devices you use to browse the internet.

This is especially crucial for phones since we often forget the security for five minutes of internet surfing while using public WiFi. Public WiFis are extremely risky to use and are often vulnerable to attacks from hackers. This means that every time you connect to the public WiFi you risk exposing your data to hackers or other interested third parties who could misuse your data in a variety of ways. So it’s important to stay protected across all devices.

Should I be using a VPN at work?

If you are working at an office job, your employer should definitely provide you with a VPN, since it is in companies’ best interest to keep the employees as well as the valuable data that is often shared through the internet protected. On the other hand, if you are an employer, protecting your employees should be one of your top priorities. It is extremely common for hackers to access valuable information about an entire company through one vulnerable spot. You should not risk your privacy and security and should invest in a good VPN for your business.

What are the risks of browsing online without a VPN?

You could be exposing your personal information to a third party, without even knowing. Browsing online without a VPN means that at any point your online activity could be visible to someone without your consent and there is no way for you to know whether or not someone is looking at your online activity right now. This could even include your location, putting your and your loved ones at risk. You need to be mindful of who can see your location on any of the devices you use to browse the web. VPN is a great way to take care of that problem once and for all and ensure that no one can see your whereabouts without your consent. BlufVPN has server locations in over 60 countries and you can choose which one fits your current needs the best.

How to choose the right VPN?

Since cyber security has become such an important topic, the amount of companies offering VPN services has also grown. It has gotten increasingly more difficult to choose the right VPN. Here's what to look for when in a good VPN Service.

The service should be affordable and offer multiple payment options. Since VPNs are something that most people will be using for a long time, it's essential that you can find a payment plan that works for you.

A good VPN should not slow down your browsing speed and should not have data caps. It’s important that having a VPN does not result in lags and slow internet speed.

It should also have Rock-solid encryption in order to do what VPN is supposed to do - protect your data. BlufVPN uses the world-class security protocols that are used in Nasa.

Kill Switch is also essential for VPNs. Kill Switch ensures that if your connection to one of the servers drops, you won’t be able to access the internet. This protects your data from being leaked or becoming accessible.

It is also important that the company has a No Log policy, meaning that your anonymity is not compromised under any conditions. That means if you have particular needs when you go online, you might also need a particular VPN protocol.

What is a VPN protocol?

Let’s start with the basics. BlufVPN offers a Virtual Private Network to you - a private, underground tunnel for your information to travel - because it’s private, no one else can use it and because it’s underground, no one can see it either. That means you can go online safe in the knowledge that your personal data is safe, and that your digital footprint and location can’t be tracked by anyone.

Each time you connect to a BlufVPN server, you’re using one of our available protocols. They all have their pros and cons, which we’ll go through in this blog, and like people none of them are perfect. It’s all about finding the right one for you. Like dating, but with less boring small talk.

Different protocols for different needs

To help you make the right decision, we’re going to play the part of protocol dating consultant. Imagine it like having a best friend to help you make the right choice when you’re out meeting new people. Only with more discussion of encryption algorithms.

IKEv2/IPSec

Internet Key Exchange version 2 and Internet Protocol Security suite are the meat and potatoes of the VPN protocol world - basic but reliable to get the job done.

In terms of the pros of using this protocol, you can be sure of a very stable connection and decent speed even on mobile, as IKEv2 uses an IPSec tool called a multi-homing protocol to continuously establish a solid VPN connection even as you move around the world.

Because it works with most leading encryption algorithms it’s a very secure protocol too, commonly connecting with an AES 256 bit encryption key.

On the downside, it has limited compatibility across platforms which means not everyone will have an easy time with it. Windows users are fine, as it was developed by Microsoft, but those on other platforms may want to choose another protocol. You also can’t choose which port to use when you connect with IKEv2/IPSec, which means it’s easy for some platforms to block.

I rate it 8/10, it’s great for when I’m on the move, and it’s nice and stable so I know I’m safe. But the lack of compatibility can be annoying when I’m changing between devices…

OpenVPN

There’s a reason that OpenVPN is a popular choice as a protocol for many VPN services, and that’s because it’s highly secure, open source and versatile.

Being open source means that it’s essentially honest - it allows you to check for any skeletons in the closet of its coding, or potential vulnerabilities. It can run a vast number of different encryption protocols too, which makes it hugely versatile. On top of those great qualities, it can be run through either the UDP or TCP port, making it a very difficult VPN protocol to block when it’s configured correctly.

OpenVPN uses the same AES 256 bit encryption as IKEv2/IPSec, but as it’s so versatile and customisable, can also be configured to use RC5 and Blowfish encryption protocols.

The compatibility of OpenVPN can also be a downside though - for a less experienced user, it can be overwhelming and excessively complicated to set up. The speeds it can achieve are also not the absolute best.

I rate it 9/10. I love being able to switch up encryption types and which port I’m using depending on what I’m doing online - which means I can get around most blocks. If OpenVPN was that little bit faster, I’d definitely give it a 10.

Wireguard

When you’re talking about VPN protocols, Wireguard is the one that gets back end developers and encryption specialists all excited, like school children around their crush. That’s because it’s the newest, sexiest protocol on the market and uses a brand new encryption algorithm which is making the other protocols jealous.

Wireguard uses ChaCha20 symmetric encryption, Curve25519 for anonymous key exchange, Poly1305 for data authentication, and BLAKE2s for hashing. That might sound like technological nonsense, but a coder who is reading this just felt a little tingle.

As well as using the latest technological advancement in the VPN world, Wireguard is the tightest piece of coding available in VPN protocol terms. It only uses 4000 lines of code to function, which is easily 100 times less than the likes of OpenVPN.

It’s got variety too and can run through any UDP port, making it super hard to block. Last of all - the speed is excellent thanks to that ChaCha20 encryption, which no other VPN protocols currently have.

The only downside to Wireguard is that it is still so new. That means VPN providers are finding their own solutions to slight gaps in Wireguard's security that are still being found.

I rate it 10/10. The newest isn’t always the best, but if you need a fast VPN connection Wireguard is the one. When I’m streaming, downloading large files or gaming, I always go with it and it hasn’t let me down yet.

Which VPN protocol is my perfect match?

As we’ve explained, the different VPN protocols can be best used in different situations.

If you’re just looking for a seriously safe VPN connection that won’t ever let you down, then there’s an argument to go with OpenVPN all the time. It means that you can be sure your data will be safe and your anonymity preserved.

When you’re looking for straight up speed of connection and a tiny bit of instability doesn’t bother you, maybe Wireguard is the one. You know it will always get the best connection speed because of that brand new ChaCha20 encryption.

If it’s stability you rely on above all else, then IKEv2/IPSec is probably your choice. It’s been around for the longest and has the most miles on the clock, so it’s been more rigorously tested than either of the other two we offer at BlufVPN.

Essentially, your perfect VPN protocol match might depend on how you’re feeling at the time, but now you have the tools to make an informed choice.
"}}}],"title":"VPN Protocols: Find your perfect match","description":"Here is info about VPN protocols. traveling is usually a fun activity, it can get overshadowed by expansive flight tickets. These days people pay anywhere from a couple of hundred to a couple of thousand dollars for their tickets. You might think there’s nothing we can do to change that but it turns out there is a way to make traveling cheaper by using VPNs. VPNs or Virtual Private Networks are an effective way to get more privacy when browsing online, but their benefits don’t end there.

Privacy in the digital space is becoming an increasingly popular topic, which is why the number of VPN users is growing quickly. Besides granting you more security and privacy online, using VPNs can help you access better deals when shopping online, which is also a part of their appeal for a lot of people.

We have found that VPNs can actually help you get especially good deals on your flight tickets. While you can use VPNs to get better deals across different industries, we are going to focus on flight tickets specifically, since this is where we seem to see its most impressive impact on the prices.

How ticket prices compare with and without VPN?

When we compare the prices for the same tickets, while using different locations through VPNs, we find that the difference can sometimes be up to a couple of hundred dollars. Since many of us travel via plane quite frequently, saving up even a little with each flight can add up to a substantial sum quickly. Here’s why it happens.

Airplane tickets are one of the priciest purchases we have to make from time to time. But not all price tags can be justified. Turns out airplane companies inflate the price of your tickets based on your location on a regular basis. If the company thinks that they can get the specific customer base to pay more for the ticket, they will adjust the price accordingly. While this is definitely a controversial practice, there’s not much users can do about it.

Research has found that airplane companies display higher prices for tickets when the user is browsing from a richer country, like the United States or Western European countries. Meanwhile, if the client seems to be browsing from a relatively poor country, prices for the same tickets will be lower. When airline companies see that your IP address is tied to a lower-income country, you will be given lower prices on your ticket.

This is often referred to as dynamic pricing or price discrimination. Companies that use dynamic pricing models adjust their prices according to the data they have on the user through their browsing history and previous interactions with the website. This isn’t exclusive to airlines, companies across different industries use dynamic pricing as a way to get their clients to pay more for their products all the time.

But the price discrimination does not stop there. Airplane companies don’t just rely on your location to change the price of the ticket. If you have visited the website and have looked at a particular ticket a couple of times, each time you look at the ticket the price will likely be increased. Airplane companies do this because they want to insert a sense of urgency in their customers, especially the ones that have previously displayed interest in purchasing their tickets. This is a very well-known marketing tactic that a lot of companies use to get people to buy their products as soon as possible.

How to use VPNs to save money on tickets?

The way that VPNs work in your favor when online shopping, is by concealing your real IP address and providing a new IP address, using a server to redirect your browsing activity to a different country. By using a VPN you could be saving up to a couple hundred dollars a year on your flight tickets. While some people may think that paying for the VPN subscription might defeat the purpose of trying to save the money, there are many affordable VPN plans that delivery quality results.

To avoid inflated prices you should use a VPN when browsing tickets online. This way the airplane company will not be able to see your browsing history or your true location, so no matter how many times you decide to check up on your desired ticket, and where you are located, the price will not be inflated. And with how expensive most tickets are anyway, everybody can use them to avoid overpaying.

Lucky for us, using VPNs to save money when purchasing flight tickets is a straightforward process. All you have to do is connect to a VPN server and start browsing flights you are interested in from a new IP address. Keep in mind that for this particular purpose, it’s important that your VPN covers a wide array of countries, as is the case with BlufVPN, which covers 60 countries. This will allow you to compare more diverse options to get the best possible deal on your ticket. When you compare the prices from drastically different locations, you will see that the difference can often be quite substantial.

While this might seem like a lot of work for a plane ticket, at the end of the day, if it helps you avoid paying overly inflated fees for flights, why not give it a shot?

Are VPNs worth it?

While most VPN users use long-term subscriptions, you don’t necessarily have to commit right away. Most VPNs will offer you options for a refund, but since you will probably continue purchasing tickets and other goods online, purchasing a VPN subscription might be a worthy investment to consider, especially when the piercing does not require you to break the bank. BlufVPN offers various packages, catering to different needs and customer bases. You can get VPNs for as cheap as €3.59 a month!

Clearly, there are many benefits to using VPNs in your day-to-day life, and more people are starting to see that. While using VPNs is not a guaranteed way to reduce the price of your ticket, it is definitely worth a try. There’s a chance that there will be a difference between locations and ticket prices and that difference is rarely if ever justified.
"}}}],"title":"Price comparisson of tickets with and without VPN","description":"Learn how to compare prices with BlufVPN.","title_image":{"dimensions":{"width":1280,"height":720},"url":"https://images.prismic.io/nitrovpn/0acf48f3-c7da-4200-ad6c-44ae27b3b670_Price+comparisson+of+tickets+with+and+without+VPN.png?auto=compress%2Cformat&rect=0%2C0%2C1281%2C721&w=1280&h=720","alt":"Price comparisson of tickets with and without VPN","copyright":null,"localFile":{"relativePath":".cache/caches/gatsby-source-prismic/ac2301b3003df5a73f37daca5768339b/0acf48f3-c7da-4200-ad6c-44ae27b3b670_Price+comparisson+of+tickets+with+and+without+VPN.png","absolutePath":"/opt/build/repo/.cache/caches/gatsby-source-prismic/ac2301b3003df5a73f37daca5768339b/0acf48f3-c7da-4200-ad6c-44ae27b3b670_Price+comparisson+of+tickets+with+and+without+VPN.png","childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/png;base64,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","aspectRatio":1.7741935483870968,"src":"/static/a5bf80e3d54b6f5b15609e8724a4ecaa/ca314/0acf48f3-c7da-4200-ad6c-44ae27b3b670_Price%2Bcomparisson%2Bof%2Btickets%2Bwith%2Band%2Bwithout%2BVPN.png","srcSet":"/static/a5bf80e3d54b6f5b15609e8724a4ecaa/7157a/0acf48f3-c7da-4200-ad6c-44ae27b3b670_Price%2Bcomparisson%2Bof%2Btickets%2Bwith%2Band%2Bwithout%2BVPN.png 275w,\n/static/a5bf80e3d54b6f5b15609e8724a4ecaa/a6873/0acf48f3-c7da-4200-ad6c-44ae27b3b670_Price%2Bcomparisson%2Bof%2Btickets%2Bwith%2Band%2Bwithout%2BVPN.png 551w,\n/static/a5bf80e3d54b6f5b15609e8724a4ecaa/ca314/0acf48f3-c7da-4200-ad6c-44ae27b3b670_Price%2Bcomparisson%2Bof%2Btickets%2Bwith%2Band%2Bwithout%2BVPN.png 1101w,\n/static/a5bf80e3d54b6f5b15609e8724a4ecaa/54e1a/0acf48f3-c7da-4200-ad6c-44ae27b3b670_Price%2Bcomparisson%2Bof%2Btickets%2Bwith%2Band%2Bwithout%2BVPN.png 1279w","sizes":"(max-width: 1101px) 100vw, 1101px"}}}},"title_image_copyright":{"html":""},"meta_description":"While traveling is usually a fun activity, it can get overshadowed by expansive flight tickets. Here’s the thing - it doesn’t have to be this way.

There’s nothing more annoying than logging on with VPN protection you’re paying for, only to get some kind of error message fail from a streaming service or social media platform.

“We think you’re using a VPN, please turn it off and try again” or “You seem to be using an unblocker or proxy…”

The reason you see these messages is often that the service you are trying to use blocks the IP address you are using with your VPN.

Netflix, for example, blocks thousands of IP addresses which it knows are associated with VPN providers to try and stop customers from accessing content which isn’t licensed where they live.

That’s right, depending on where you are in the world, Netflix and other broadcasters get to decide what content you see because it maximises their income. They can sell the same series again and again into different territories by dividing the world up into areas that suit them.

Even though they’re a modern, big money streaming service who provide great content at a relatively reasonable price, deep down they’re just another corporation using old world methods to try and squeeze every bit of money they can out of their customers. Fair enough, it’s their right to do so.

But it can seem unfair that what you are able to watch is determined by where in the world you live. And it doesn’t have to be this way!

If my VPN fails, can I fix it?

The short answer to this question is yes - the long answer is it depends on the situation. But don’t worry. We’ve got your back.

“If you are paying for a VPN and you’re still getting caught out by certain platforms who try to block VPN servers, it’s time to up your game. We’re going to teach you how. Get your notepad out, I’m taking you to VPN school.”

As well as learning how to fix it when you do receive an error message, it’s important to think about what you can do to stop this happening before it does.

Firstly, many VPN providers have preferred streaming servers which you can use to access streaming content. This may be because they work with streaming providers to have these servers “signed off” for use on their platform.

However, if you want to connect to a country other than the one you’re physically in, things might get a little more complicated. There’s a few steps you can take to get your VPN connection working again.

The Eight Step Guide to fix proxy errors:

Try connecting to a different server. If you get an error message, do the classic IT solution and effectively reset. Disconnect, choose a new server and connect again.

Your local network blocks VPNs. You may not have realised, but it may not be the service you’re accessing blocking you - it might be where you are. If you’re at a school or college, streaming and social media sites are often blocked. VPNs can be too. So try leaving the local network.

Change protocol. If you’re using a VPN provider that allows you to, you can change the VPN protocol you’re using. That means if IKEv2/IPSec or OpenVPN aren’t working, you could just try switching to WireGuard, for example. You may find it fixes the problem as it uses a different form of encryption or accesses a different port.

Change port. If you’re using a modern VPN protocol like WireGuard, you can also consider trying to change the TCP/UCP ports you are using. It is likely to help you find your way around VPN blocks and remove you from the land of failure. Not all VPN providers have this capability though, so it’s worth checking if yours does first.

Disable WebRTC. What’s WebRTC you say? Web Real Time Communication, dummy. It allows web browsers to speak to one another directly without the need for an intermediate server and it supposedly improves the performance of various browser functions like file sharing and video chat. For WebRTC to work, the two browsers need to know each other’s IP addresses. Streaming services can exploit WebRTC to get your true IP address without you realising, so if you can disable it, you’re less likely to see the dreaded proxy errors when streaming. In some browsers it’s easy to disable in settings, in Chrome you’ll need a WebRTC disabling browser extension.

Go Incognito. Using a private browser will stop any service you’re using from discovering your true location through a leak of geo-location data. That way, the service might spot that your VPN’s IP address says you’re in the UK, even though your geo-location data says that you’re in Germany. If that happened, it’s goodbye stream, hello proxy error.

Clear your cache. If you clear your cache regularly, any streaming service or social media service you’re using isn’t going to learn from your cookies that you’re using a VPN to appear as if you’re somewhere you’re not. It’s a quick fix that’ll probably get you up and running again.

Phone a friend. Most VPN services offer some kind of support, whether it’s 24/7 live chat or email. It might seem silly to use your VPN provider’s help to fix a problem like this but it’s not - it’s exactly why they’re there. Get in touch and ask their experts for assistance.

Any one of those tips is likely to get your VPN working again on whatever service you’re using and save you from the hell of continuous proxy errors and infuriating blocks.

If you’re looking for a VPN you can rely on to give you streams that flow like a beautiful mountain river, get BlufVPN today.

With Bluf, you can be sure that all of the 8 steps above are a possibility and get your stream or social media access back up and running in no time.
"}}}],"title":"VPN Fails and how to fix it?","description":"Learn what to do it VPN fails and how to fix it ASAP.","title_image":{"dimensions":{"width":1280,"height":720},"url":"https://images.prismic.io/nitrovpn/793d81f9-c345-45e0-9b5a-5e537efdec60_VPN-fails.png?auto=compress%2Cformat&rect=0%2C0%2C1280%2C720&w=1280&h=720","alt":"VPN Fails! You follow a TV show, or heard about a new film coming out. So you log on to your streaming service and...it’s not there. Or worse yet, you read the dreaded words “Content not available in your country”.

Licensing companies and TV networks don't want the value of their shows to decrease, so they build clauses into their contracts that force streaming services to secure content by region and country. That means a new sale for every different country they provide it to.

When TV executives hear those words, they hear the sound of cash registers ringing in their ears.

Geo blocks mean TV boss stonks

For that reason, streaming services or gaming platforms use geolocation services to provide different content to different locations. Your IP address tells the provider where you are in the world, and that tells them what shows or content they can make available to you.

For a company, geo-blocking restricts certain content to areas that aren't the target market. In that way they can have full control over who gets the content and, most importantly, when they get it.

In plenty of cases, with the most popular series they just make certain countries wait longer to build anticipation amongst viewers, after a new show has gone viral on social media or has had great reviews in the press.

Often the best content is only available in the USA, Canada and the UK, even on the same streaming service. And there is now a trend that most of the new content becomes available in USA first, and it can take a long time, if not forever, for it to appear in your country.

And they really don’t want you to beat the system. Many streaming servers try to prevent clever internet users from getting around their geographical blocks. To do that, they “blacklist” certain products, like VPNs, which can help.

Blacklisting is a control mechanism that prevents users from accessing a particular service if they have a certain piece of software installed; it’s like a block list. Using industry standard technologies to blacklist popular VPNs, streaming platforms ensure that users don’t fool the system by using virtual locations. But - they can’t stop all VPNs. 😉

A closed internet

It is not only streaming services who use the tactic of cutting the digital world up with borders, just like the real one. Plenty of websites suffer the same fate. Geo-blocking can also be used to limit access to internet content based on location overall, and restricts the availability of specific internet content and sites to a geographical location.

That means your favourite online games, gambling websites or just content that your country’s authorities don’t like can be blocked from you, and that your version of the internet is curated by someone other than you. The same strategy of dividing the world into multiple markets, with different paid for products in every one, isn’t just limited to TV and film.

Most of us don’t realise that every time we log on without using a VPN, our Internet Service Provider and the authorities of our country are choosing what we get to see online and what we don’t, because it’s mostly done without us realising that it’s happening.

For example, your country’s authorities might not like a particular social media site, so they block you from reaching it, but have an alternative which they do allow. Your ISP might, if you live in the USA, be throttling your bandwidth when you use one streaming service, but allowing your streams to flow perfectly on another, all because they have a deal with the second one but not the first.

Ultimately, if you don’t hide your IP using a VPN, your location is available information to be abused by whichever corporations want to take advantage of it and limit your view of the online world.

How to stop the block?

It’s pretty simple really. Use a VPN and be where you need to be. If you have a VPN service, you can choose a server across a number of countries in the world to give you the access you need. If “this content is not available in your country” just connect to a server in the USA, or the UK, and it probably will be.

Having a VPN tears down the imaginary borders which have been created online and allows you to experience the internet as it was meant to be - free, open and unlimited.
"}}}],"title":"Geo blocks - why is that a thing?","description":"Learn how to stop geoblocking.","title_image":{"dimensions":{"width":1280,"height":720},"url":"https://images.prismic.io/nitrovpn/3df06fd3-cfb8-44d7-b7ee-3315184502b8_fuuu.png?auto=compress%2Cformat&rect=0%2C1%2C1473%2C829&w=1280&h=720","alt":null,"copyright":null,"localFile":{"relativePath":".cache/caches/gatsby-source-prismic/2b56eb8351c3c4b083dc43904d3f2cbd/3df06fd3-cfb8-44d7-b7ee-3315184502b8_fuuu.png","absolutePath":"/opt/build/repo/.cache/caches/gatsby-source-prismic/2b56eb8351c3c4b083dc43904d3f2cbd/3df06fd3-cfb8-44d7-b7ee-3315184502b8_fuuu.png","childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/png;base64,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","aspectRatio":1.7741935483870968,"src":"/static/38efbba21442d22442f727bfc8fd5385/ca314/3df06fd3-cfb8-44d7-b7ee-3315184502b8_fuuu.png","srcSet":"/static/38efbba21442d22442f727bfc8fd5385/7157a/3df06fd3-cfb8-44d7-b7ee-3315184502b8_fuuu.png 275w,\n/static/38efbba21442d22442f727bfc8fd5385/a6873/3df06fd3-cfb8-44d7-b7ee-3315184502b8_fuuu.png 551w,\n/static/38efbba21442d22442f727bfc8fd5385/ca314/3df06fd3-cfb8-44d7-b7ee-3315184502b8_fuuu.png 1101w,\n/static/38efbba21442d22442f727bfc8fd5385/54e1a/3df06fd3-cfb8-44d7-b7ee-3315184502b8_fuuu.png 1279w","sizes":"(max-width: 1101px) 100vw, 1101px"}}}},"title_image_copyright":{"html":""},"meta_description":"Geo blocks – what is it and how does it work?
